Staff need a say over the use of A.I.

Our strike won commitments to consultation and ethical guidelines for the use of A.I. in the workplace. Despite this, the ABC has begun to roll out an A.I. pilot without consulting with staff.

APPRAISAL PREPARATION AND APPEALS

By going on strike together, we won meaningful improvements to appraisal processes and band progression at the ABC.Some of those changes will come into effect for this round of appraisals, while some won’t come into effect until next year’s appraisals.Here are some MEAA resources to assist MEAA members in preparing for your appraisal meetings during this round, and appealing outcomes you object to.

FROM THIS YEAR ONWARDS

* Workers at the top of Bands 1-3 who receive a Meets rating will automatically progress to the lowest pay point in the next band;* Workers at the top of Bands 1-3 who receive an Exceeds rating will automatically progress to the second lowest pay point in the next band;* Workers at the top of Band 4 who receive a Meets or Exceeds rating for three consecutive years while at the top of Band 4 will progress to the lowest pay point in Band 5; and* Workers at the top of Band 5, who have received three Exceeds ratings, two of which have occurred in consecutive years will progress to the lowest pay point in Band 6.

RATINGS THAT ARE RETROACTIVE

All performance outcomes from and including the 2021-2022 Appraisal Period (i.e. the outcome you received in the first half of 2022) will count toward the pathways that allow progression from Band 4-5 and Band 5-6.Members progressing under the new system will have their progression outcomes recognised and paid from the first pay period following the approval of the new agreement by the Fair Work Commission, which could take a few months.
